At Capspeed Motorsport, we believe that a great project doesn’t require an unlimited budget to stand out. What it really needs is the right foundation, technical knowledge, and countless hours of dedication. That’s exactly what this Toyota Starlet KP60 represents—a classic economy car that is being transformed into a complete Low Budget Drift Project.
At first glance, it still looks like an ordinary 1980s Toyota Starlet. Underneath the bodywork, however, lies something completely different. This project could easily be described as a small “Frankenstein,” as its heart comes from BMW. A significant number of its mechanical components have been sourced from the German manufacturer, combining BMW’s reliability and the availability of spare parts with the lightweight chassis of the Starlet.
The transformation goes far beyond the engine swap. The entire interior has been stripped and rebuilt from scratch with safety and functionality as top priorities. A roll bar, racing bucket seats, multi-point harnesses, a hydraulic handbrake, and all the necessary chassis reinforcements have been installed to prepare the car for life on the track. At the same time, the braking system, drivetrain mounts, and countless small details have been redesigned and upgraded—changes that may not be immediately visible but make a huge difference in reliability and driving performance.
The project is now approximately 90% complete. Only the final details, setup work, and testing remain before the Starlet is ready for its first sideways runs.
For us, this car proves that motorsport is not simply about money. It’s about creativity, determination, and the passion to turn a crazy idea into reality. Soon, the “FrankenStarlet” will leave our workshop and begin writing its own story on the track, proving that even a humble Toyota Starlet can evolve into something completely different from what it once was.
This project is still under construction—but it’s already a perfect example of what can be achieved with the right vision, the right skills, and a true passion for motorsport.
